If lemon juice is too drying, the best alternative would be to strong chamomile tea which has conditioning properties. Heated but do not boil liquids, boiling liquid will cause immediate dye release (once the dye starts to release you only have so much time to apply the henna). Terps aka EO's facilitate quicker dye release over time and don't affect consistency. Does Henna Paste have to be packed and 'caked' on... I've been thinking about this since my last two applications, and then someone answered my question through comment... so no it doesn't have to be caked on, but you do not want it hair dye thin either but just enough to cover your hair and you will still received great results (once you put on your plastic cap, your body heat will help distribute the henna dye.) Henna Hair:http://www.mehandi.com/hair/hennahair.htmlThis was my third time doing Henna, The first time I had too much... the second time, too little (I tried the Jamilia the second time)... since I have more hair than I did the first time, I should have used the whole 100g of the kind I used this and the first time (Rajasthani Monsoon Henna 2007). Since later on I was planning on adding Red Wine, I should have started off with a mash potato consistency, then once the henna released it's dye, add only enough red wine to make the 'mash potato' like paste into a yogurt or pudding (maybe slightly thinner but not soupy) consistency. I think you get the idea ;) ***on another note: Previously, I've used conditioner before I applied henna and it still stained my hair, so if you do not feel comfortable just clarifying your hair before a henna application, you can apply conditioner... do whatever works for you (just make sure your hair is more dry than damp before applying your treatment :)***If my hair is naturally black, why did I buy indigo? When I did my first Henna purchase, I also purchased Indigo in case I didn't like the reddish tint, so far so good, but I still have my back up whenever I no longer want the reddish tint.I didn't do measurements, but here's a mix I found online that was close to what I used...125-150g body art quality henna6 tbs red wine vinegar10 tbs lemon juice3 tbs virgin olive oil (my hair is very dry)I mix very well, cover with cling film leaving no air, let sit all night for dye release. Next morning, I add to the mix:4 tbs paprikalavender essential oil 5 dropsrosemary essential oil 5 dropstea tree oil essential oil 2 dropsAnd then I add more lemon juice until it has the right consistency, like yogurt or so. The total amount of lemon juice is more or less 25 cl.My curly hair is too difficult to apply henna to when it is dry, so I apply it on clean damp hair. Then I wrap my head with cling film, and a towel to keep it warm. I leave it on 3 or 4 hours. Then, I rinse it off, in a bucket of water, with running water, and with the help of conditioner. Last is a vinegar rinse. About 1 tbs of red wine vinegar in two cups of water. If I do the vinegar rinse my hair doesn't stain my towels.Other People's Mixeshttp://www.hennaforhair.com/mixes/Henna How To WebInfo...http://www.howtodothings.com/fashion-personal-care/how-to-use-henna-and-natural-herbs-on-your-hairTerps for Hennahttp://www.hennapage.com/henna/how/terp.htmlAlready mixed Henna by Lush, plus a review:http://www.amazon.com/Caca-Noir-Mama-Henna-LUSH/dp/B0007TJOCY1Last but not least, deme2372 is the channel where I found this new way to tie my headwraps, thanks deme2372
